Fashion Week: Betsey Johnson
NEW YORK (AP) - She might have put dozens of prom queens on the runway, but Betsey Johnson was the belle of the ball at the preview of her spring collection Tuesday afternoon.
She took her bow in the company of her granddaughter Layla - they wore matching tutus and silver ballet shoes - kissed a male model half her age and then did her customary cartwheels, much to the delight of the crowd at the Bryant Park tents.
Johnson's show is a traditional high point of New York Fashion Week, not so much for the styles on the runway but because it's always a high-energy, happy event. The theme this season was prom-worthy party dresses inspired by each decade from the 1950s through now.

Designer's Collection Stolen
The darling of the British fashion industry is prepared to show during London fashion week after key pieces from his upcoming collection are stolen from studio.
CHRISTOPHER KANE revealed this morning that his East End studio was broken into on Saturday night and 23 of his collection pieces - due to be unveiled on the catwalk for the first time this time next week - were stolen along with a company laptop. The designer and his sister (and business partner), Tammy stopped in at the studio to pick something up on their way to the Scottish Fashion Awards this weekend (at which Kane was named Designer of the Year). Noticing that the lights were on, they entered the studio to find that thieves had somehow known both combination and security codes to the two doors. They called the Crime Squad immediately but no fingerprints have been found. "Naturally I am devastated that this has happened," says Kane. "We are all shaken by the break in and the fact that someone has invaded my private work space and taken precious show pieces so close to fashion week, although I do realise it could have been a lot worse." Despite this major set back, Kane and his team are hoping to have the collection back together in time for the show which is scheduled for 2.30pm on Monday September 17. Kane has also publicly asked anybody who might know anything about the robbery to come forward.

Fashion Week: Anna Sui
NEW YORK (AP) - There's been a lot of talk about happy, sunny clothes at New York Fashion Week as spring collections are previewed on the runway. But, until the Anna Sui show Monday night, there hadn't been many signs of happy, sunny models. Apparently all it takes to make the catwalkers come to life are colorful wigs, playful clothes and a soundtrack that includes the old Andrews Sisters hit "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." The first look on the runway was a bolero with black sequins, a multicolored diamond-print blouse and plaid shorts. Is someone likely to wear it to work next season? Probably not, but it sure looks good on the runway. Lisa Marie Presley and her daughter, Riley Keough, were among those cheering from the front row. For those who are indeed looking for Sui to provide real-world wardrobe solutions, she offered a plaid jacket-and-jumpsuit set - worn with a colorful print blouse underneath - as well as a white-and-black, Art Deco-themed dress. For parties, and deep down Sui is a party girl, there were several pairs of flutter shorts with tiers of ruffles on the behind and a shirtdress with a plaid pattern featured on a sheer fabric.

Fashion Week: Phillip Lim
NEW YORK (AP) - A pearl-embellished, nude-colored minidress told the whole story at the Phillip Lim fashion show Sunday, held inside the New York Public Library.
Lim previewed the collection for his 3.1 Phillip Lim label as part of New York Fashion Week. "He is such a master of the great dress that you can wear in the summer and wear all summer," said Linda Wells, editor in chief of Allure. She said she personally looks for all-day, all-occasion dresses - and she spotted a few of them on the Lim runway. The fashion industry considers Lim a top up-and-comer and he won the emerging talent award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America earlier this year. He owes some of his success to creating outfits that go from day to night, offering affordable prices - by designer standards, and by adding a touch of embellishment to almost everything, according to Wells. "Everyone likes a little bit of that," she said with a laugh.

Fashion Rocks Coverage
NEW YORK (AP) - To judge New York Fashion Week by the lineup at Thursday night's Fashion Rocks concert, you'd think the mismatched look was in. Fergie sang with Aerosmith, Teri Hatcher shared the stage with 50 Cent to introduce Jennifer Lopez, and Jeremy Piven served as host to a crowd of style insiders. From the start, Piven wondered aloud why he was there - were possible emcees Tom Ford, Kanye West or Heidi Klum all unavailable? Yes, Piven answered, and that left him to do the job. He was more than serviceable....
from NYD... Our personal fave, Mr. Tyler (clad in mixed animal prints) opened the night with Joe Perry & company in true fervent Aerosmith style. An illuminated elevator carried JLo to center stage, set in the midst of a paparazzi frenzy; removing her jacket for a quick costume change before going into her next hit and exiting via the same elevator. A show stopper for many was the rare duet featuring the chic & polished styles of Mary J Blige & Usher. Oh yes...the bathrooms (and when I say bathroom, I mean bathrooms that have an entrance larger than most NYC apartments) were fully attended by Revlon reps who had multiple displays of samples of some amazing new products for the taking. I nabbed myself a great mascara, which I will be sporting this morning to assist in achieving 'the awake' look.
Thank you to the folks at Revlon!
Fashion Rocks airs tonight at 9pm on CBS.

Fashion Rocks Tonight...and we'll be there
Celebrity stylist Andrea Lieberman dishes on mixing rock 'n' roll and style for Fashion Rocks, which tapes tonight at Radio City Music Hall (watch it tomorrow at 7 p.m. on CBS). She'll be consulting for the event as well as dressing Mary J. Blige, who'll duet with Usher. Other duos include Fergie and Ludacris and Alicia Keys with Santana; there'll also be performances by Aerosmith, Avril Lavigne, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lopez and other.
How is it different dressing musicians than, say, actors? Musicians just have a completely different spirit. And they're really into it - there's a sense of whimsy and fun that comes with dressing a musician. I think that music and fashion are so beautifully related that the fashion becomes a part of their performance.
Why do you think Fashion Rocks has lasted four years now? In New York, that is an eternity. Fashion Rocks is such a great venue to celebrate the relationship between fashion and music. Fashion Week is always exciting, and then you throw these musicians into town, and they go to shows, which makes it so much more fun. What's the musical fashion trend you're feeling right now?Sixties rocker is something that personally I'm really into, and if you look at some things that have been going on, musically, like Amy Winehouse and her whole style, I think it's been in the air. How long does it take to dress an artist for an event like this?
Generally, it could be a few days to a week. My clients are people that I've worked with for many years, so it's sort of something that evolves over time. But it's more fun to do it all last-minute, right?I love craziness. I hate the drama, but I love the insanity. You walk away with a really great high from it, and for me that's why Fashion Rocks is so great; it's the perfect combination of two things I love, which are fashion and music.... NY Daily News

Standing Ovation for Stefani at Fashion Week
NEW YORK (AP) - Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. collection was the marquee name on the opening day of New York Fashion Week, and she packed the biggest venue at the Bryant Park tents Wednesday night with fashion insiders, celebrity friends and even her 1-year-old son, Kingston, who sat in the front row on the lap of daddy Gavin Rossdale. The show was the most highly stylized on a schedule that also saw spring previews from BCBG Max Azria and Nicole Miller, among others. The clothes ranged from retro mod frocks to wearable sheath dresses, all shooting out onto the runway against a black-and-white video backdrop on models wearing clunky heels. A handful of the outfits were costumey - particularly a double-breasted coat in a black-and-white check that Stefani called the Abingdon Road coat and a pair of matching short shorts. Stefani might be able to pull this off onstage, but the average woman would have trouble wearing it, no matter how cute it looked on the runway. Overall, though, Stefani, along with stylist Andrea Lieberman, offered several looks that were in step with her young, hip customer, including a military-inspired jacket with a peekaboo neckline worn with a plaid pleated dress, and a houndstooth beaded shift dress with a pleated cape jacket. L.A.M.B. has been one of the few celebrity brands to find a success at high-end retailers, and it has gained the respect of the fashion industry. She launched the label with a big Fashion Week show two years ago and has done smaller previews since then. The big difference between that first big catwalk event and this one, Stefani noted, was that she wasn't scrambling for accessories: L.A.M.B. now makes its own. The very first shoe on the runway was a yellow, green and black platform pump called the Kingston. "We're still learning, but we also have accomplished stuff that shocks me. I don't want to brag, but I'm feel pretty proud of a lot of this," Stefani told The Associated Press earlier this week. Some of the audience appeared to agree, with a standing ovation from the celebrity section, which included Eve, Sean 'Diddy' Combs and actress Sophia Bush.

Fashion Week Opens
More than 80 designers are gathering in the Big Apple with dozens of tents erected in Bryant Park in the shadows of the city's sky-scrapers for the occasion. But besides being a showcase for established industry heavyweights like Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Michael Kors, fashion week is increasingly a battle ground for young designers. Among them will be rising stars such as New York's own Zac Posen, the flamboyant Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch, and L.A.M.B, the label launched by the singer Gwen Stefani. "New York is a bit more sportswear-oriented," said young American designer Christian Stroble, 27, who will be showing here for the first time, adding that the Paris shows were "more abstract, more avant-garde."
Young models will also be hoping that New York fashion week will prove their runway to success. Among those to watch are the wide-eyed, 16-year-old, Tanya Dziakhileva, from Minsk in Belarus, and Theodora Richards, the daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. The meeting and greeting was due to start in earnest Tuesday with a series of star-studded dinners, including one hosted by Diane Von Furstenberg with Sudanese model Alek Wek, who recently released her autobiography "Alek" chronicling her rise from a refugee in Britain to a catwalk supermodel.

New York Fashion Week Begins Tomorrow
New York Fashion week gets going tomorrow and things are already heating up as some of the world's top designers nervously wait to reveal their latest Spring 2008 collections.
Kicking things off will be menswear label Nautica who will be displaying their sailing inspired creations at the Bryant Park fashion hub. The rest of the day will see Rachel Roy, Rag and Bone, and Marchessa head down the catwalk. The hottest meal ticket of the day will be the Alber Elbaz Honurary Awards Luncheon at the exclusive Rainbow Room where the Israeli born fashion legend will be praised for his continuing contributions to the industry. Celebrity red carpet favourite Anne Bowen will be showing off her latest evening wear as the afternoon draws to an end followed by Rock and Republic's showcase from 4pm. Charlotte Ronson, of the ridiculously talented Ronson family who also includes producer Mark and DJ Samantha - will be showing her latest offerings tomorrow evening. The first day will be wrapped up with Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein Underwear at 9pm- before it's time to head of to all those swanky fashion parties that are sure to carry on into the night.
