We LOVE Juliette Lewis
and so does the Boston Herald critic... Juliette & The Licks opened last night for Chris Cornell (formerly Soundgarden & AudioSlave). Read a snippet of the review below. ...But no matter how improved Cornell's set may have been, "Outshined" is the only way to describe how it compared with that of openers Juliette Lewis and her four-piece backup band, the Licks. Supporting "Four on the Floor," released Tuesday, Lewis was every bit the unruly vixen you'd imagine from her role in "Natural Born Killers." "We will be your appetizer this evening," she said, and proceeded to serve up a four-course rock 'n' roll meal that would've tasted as fresh and delicious at CBGB 30 years ago. Dressed in skin-tight sparkling tights and knee pads, Lewis projected her own brand of sexy irreverence combined with Jagger-like stage swagger and the volatile air of a young Patti Smith.... more

The Hours to Play Prada at Fashion Week
AFTER HOURS: Prada will be among those spicing up the post-show party scene during New York Fashion Week.
On the heels of last year's performance by Jack White's The Raconteurs, the Milan house plans to host another bash at its SoHo store on Sept. 7, this time with a private concert by new rockers The Hours. Last year's shindig was a celebrity magnet, with the likes of Orlando Bloom, Liv Tyler, Eva Mendes, Mischa Barton, Winona Ryder, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Lisa Marie Presley rocking to the tunes.
This year, there could be a sighting of Damien Hirst, who is friends with The Hours' Antony Genn and Martin Slattery, and financed their debut album. He also created the skull image for the album cover....from WWD

Natalie Portman Not Naked in Goya's Ghosts
Natalie Portman did not strip completely naked for new movie 'Goya's Ghosts'.
The Hollywood beauty was believed to have stripped off for the graphic torture scenes in the movie - in which she plays the muse of painter Francisco Goya who is accused of heresy during the Spanish Inquisition - but she has now revealed she used a body double for some scenes. Natalie said: "There's a long shot of a nude woman, but it's not me. You do see some parts of me unclothed, but if they end up on websites making it look like I'm nude, I'm going to be really, really angry."...more at FemaleFirst

L'Oreal's Falsies Revealed
An advertising campaign for L'Oreal Telescopic mascara fronted by actress Penelope Cruz has been slammed by the Advertising Standards Authority for its use of fake eyelashes.
The TV and print campaign, created by McCann Erickson, received a complaint over the use of the actress wearing false eyelashes, which exaggerated the lash length that could be achieved by using the product.
Copy in the press ad stated: "In a flash of a stroke...up to 60 per cent longer lashes and definition lash by lash", and featured a close-up shot of the actress with exaggerated eyelashes.
L'Oreal will now have to include a disclaimer in future ads featuring models wearing false eyelashes, irrespective of whether those lashes were individually inserted to bring lashes to a consistent standard or whether they were a full set of false lashes. The make-up company was also told to ensure future ads made clear that the "up to 60 per cent" claim referred to the "appearance" of the lashes, not to an actual extension in the length of lashes.... mad.co.uk

Rihanna Launches Umbrella Line
Rihanna has topped off her chart success by launching a range of umbrellas.
Totes will produce the stylish umbrellas which will be sold for between $20 and $50. The most expensive brolly, the Rihanna 2 Color Satin Stick, was reportedly featured in the Bajan beauty's perfomance on the 2007 MTV Awards. So if rumors about clubbers raising their own umbrellas whenever the song is played is true, it's set to be a massive venture for the 19-year-old. The track has held the top spot for ten weeks, becoming the longest-running UK number this decade.
The young singer has sold 5.4 million albums. Her most recent, "Good Girl Gone Bad," has been in the top 20 on the Billboard 200 for the past six weeks.

I'm Not A Plastic Bag...Sold Out again
Bags sold out at the Columbus Circle Wholefoods location in 29 minutes. The torrential downpour did not dissuade New Yorkers from camping out and waiting in a line that squirreled around & down the block(s). And ironically, those lucky enough to get a bag walked proudly out of the store carrying it in their plastic Wholefoods bag. The bags came pre-packed in three's for a total of $48.74 and buyers had their cash out ready to pay. Supposedly the Columbus Circle store had about 2,500-3,000 bags in stock. The bag lists on EBay at over $250.00.

"I'm Not a Plastic Bag" debuts at Wholefoods in NYC
The tote is made from cotton, no word on if it is organic (that would only make sense, but it is not mentioned anywhere), and costs only $15. Good luck getting your hands on one, however. It's been featured in worldwide media and previously all pre-orders were sold out. 90,000 in total.
UK-based designer Anya Hindmarch is on a worldwide launch tour; just returning from Japan.
Hindmarch comments on the overwhelming response during recent city stops:
We discussed the canceling of the launches in Beijing, Shanghai and Jakarta due to the stampedes in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Anya watched it on the news and was disturbed by the images of people getting trampled. She mused that if she had known that people would come out in droves, she might have planned things differently.
This morning at 8am you lucky New Yorkers (who are already in line) can pick up your bag at Wholefoods on the Bowery. Anya will be debuting the bag for a fabulous price of $15. "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" was designed in collaboration with We Are What We Do, a movement to inspire people to use their everyday actions to save the world. Action number one is " Decline Plastic Bags Wherever Possible" - amen! They state that each person in the UK uses up to 167 bags a year - 10 billion annually in total. So bring your own! (no stats on U.S. usage as of yet)
Recent celebs spotted toting the bag include Keira Knightley, Reese Witherspoon, and Jessica Biel.

Penelope Cruz Working on New Film & Clothing Line
After a photo shoot and shopping trip in Paris, Penelope Cruz has now found herself situated in Barcelona for the filming of Woody Allen's upcoming film, co-starring Scarlett Johansson. The actress recently sat down with Style magazine for an interview, but was tight-lipped about her latest role - instead opting to talk about her upcoming fashion line and close-knit family.
Penelope spoke of how she has recently entered into a business venture with her sister, Monica, a dancer and television actress. The sisters designed a collection for the Spain-based fashion chain Mango, which includes a mix of red-carpet-inspired evening wear, jeans, knits and daywear based on their own fashion preferences. Speaking of the new clothing endeavor (which is slated for a September 16 launch), Cruz said, "This is something we've wanted to do for a long time. We just had to find the right people to do it with. We've always loved clothes - we used to hide in the bathroom with fashion magazines and say, 'I want that one.' We'd get a pencil and mark the pictures, and show how we'd transform them at home."

Punk Baroque Goes Underground at Berlin Fashion Week
BRANDENBURG GATE provided a dramatic backdrop for the inaugural Berlin Fashion Week, which began with Hugo Boss's spring/summer 2008 collection.
Models strutted through the arches of the historic monument illuminated by hundreds of spotlights. The star-studded front row of Mischa Barton, Christina Ricci, Rupert Everett, formula one drivers and international models provided a double dose of glamour. Barton is shooting a film in Russia and Ricci is working near Berlin. The night before, models paraded through a carriage of Berlin's subway line 5, during the Underground Catwalk event. After the Hugo Boss show, 1500 guests celebrated at the Russian embassy. Hugo Boss is one of many Germans to have helped shape the modern fashion industry, including Karl Lagerfeld, Jil Sander, Escada and the models Heidi Klum, Nadja Auermann and Claudia Schiffer. The German capital has emerged as the European epicentre of youthful cool. Since the Berlin Wall came down the artistic community has thrived, with more than 3000 fashion designers now basing themselves in the city. The rebel of British fashion Vivienne Westwood presented her Anglomania collection at the Brandenburg Gate on Saturday.

Posh + Becks = ...
David and Victoria Beckham have posed in a sexy photo series for W magazine in a bid to raise their profile ahead of their move to America.
The steamy photos appear in the August issue of W magazine (article), and show David and Victora stripped down to their smalls. One shows an underwear-clad David unzipping Victoria's lingerie. Victoria tells the magazine the photos show the real her. "I think people are really going to see me for the first time," Victoria Beckham tells the magazine. "I think they have this impression that I'm this miserable cow who doesn't smile. But I'm actually quite the opposite." It is one of a series of publicity stunts being used to raise awareness of the couple's move to Los Angeles this week, where David will play for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. Victoria has lined up at least two talk shows, a reality-style TV documentary about her trans-Atlantic move, and in December the reunited Spice Girls will kick off their global tour in Los Angeles. The couple got together in 1997 after meeting at a soccer game in London, and married in September 1999. They have three sons. W magazine is released on July 20.

London Fashion Week to Ban Young Models?
Models under the age of 16 may be banned from participating in London Fashion Week.An expert panel has recommended that young models be removed from the shows due to the dangers, particularly an increased risk of eating disorders, posed by the insufficiently regulated industry. "The panel has set out an approach designed to protect vulnerable young workers in an industry which appears to be glamorous but which has hidden risks and that for all practical purposes is largely unregulated and unmonitored." "During our investigations members of the panel became increasingly concerned as we heard more details about the working conditions faced by many models and the vulnerability of young women working in an unregulated and scarcely-monitored work environment." "There was also strongly expressed concern that it is profoundly inappropriate that girls under 16 under the age of consent should be portrayed as adult women. The risk of sexualising these children was high and designers could risk charges of sexual exploitation," said Baroness Kingsmill.

Posh's Last UK Shopping Spree
SHE'LL soon be able to pop down Rodeo Drive, the most famous and exclusive shopping area in the world.
But that didn't stop fashion-mad Victoria Beckham indulging in a last-minute spree in the UK yesterday before moving to America later this week. In skinny jeans and a plain black top Posh, 33, browsed through rails of frilly undies and bras at one of her favourite lingerie shops, the Strip waxing salon in Notting Hill.
And while she and David might be worth $224million, the Spice Girl mother-of-three insists she is as down to earth as the rest of us. That's despite David's $256million move to LA Galaxy, where he makes his debut this week. Victoria says: "I'm just a normal girl from London living quite a surreal life." But Posh reveals Brooklyn, nine, Romeo, four, and Cruz, two, are convinced they are going to live with Mickey Mouse. Victoria says: "They think they're moving to Disneyland."

NYC Getting Greener with Bike Share Program
Bike sharing has worked in Oslo, it started this year in Barcelona and it is about to launch in Paris. But is traffic-heavy New York ready?
A planning group is providing 20 free bikes for a five-day experiment in green transportation, European style, and is hoping the answer is yes. If the program is a hit, its backers will try to design a year-round bike-sharing system for New York. "One of the major revelations for us is how real of a possibility this is," said David Haskell, executive director of the Forum for Urban Design, an organization of architects and planners that came up with the bike-sharing experiment. The bikes have been lined up in a SoHo gallery called the Storefront For Art and Architecture since Saturday. Anyone can stop by and take one for a half-hour spin. Borrowing the bicycle is free, but cyclists must provide credit card information to ensure that they bring the bike back.
In Stockholm there are 1,000 bikes and 80 pick-up and drop-off stations for a population of 800,000. In Lyon there are 3,000 bike and 350 stations. Paris' bike-sharing system is scheduled to start Sunday with 10,000 bikes and 750 stations. Haskell said he hopes bike-sharing will eventually be adopted citywide in conjunction with Mayor Michael Bloomberg's campaign for a greener city. "The amount it would cost is peanuts compared to extending a subway line or adding another entire limited-stop bus network," he said.

Justin Timberlake Launches New Line in the UK
Justin Timberlake brought sexy back after the UK launch of his new clothing line, William Rast, took place last night in London. The prince of pop caused mass hysteria when fans desperate to catch a glimpse, spilled out onto the street blocking the entrance to Harvey Nichols. The catwalk was equally as sexy with beautiful models Lily Cole, Petra Nemcova and Burberry poster boy Max Irons all in attendance.
The name, William Rast, comes from a combination of Timberlake's grandfather's first name of William and Trace Ayala's (biz partner, pictured) grandfather's last name of Rast.

not-so Desperate Bridesmaids
from WWD...Eva Longoria was clad in custom-made Chanel and Vera Wang and Boucheron jewelry when she wed basketball player Tony Parker this past weekend in Paris, but she didn't leave her girlfriends empty-handed. Her stylist Robert Verdi asked designer Rafe Totengco to create one-of-a-kind minaudieres for each of Longoria's 10 bridesmaids to carry during the wedding reception. Crafted in anthracite water snake and adorned with smoky rhinestones, the clutches came personalized with each bridesmaid's initials. Totengco also made one as a gift for the bride, natch.
Her hunky B-baller didn't do so poorly either. Cole Haan outfitted Parker and his party, which consisted of nine groomsmen and the fathers of both Parker and Longoria. The men donned Cole Haan's custom-made black patent leather Air Lucarno Formal shoes and black calf-leather belts. The Air Lucarno Formal is a new style within Cole Haan's Men's State of the Art Collection. It's handcrafted in Italy, designed with hidden Nike Air technology - just in case there's a pickup game on the dance floor.

The Fashion Police DO Exist
A small Louisiana town vs The Low-rise The Town Council in Delcambre unanimously passed an ordinance on overly saggy pants, calling the trend obscene if they hang too low and/or expose any private parts or underwear. This law will apply to both men and women. Although Councilman Albert Roy wanted to assess fines in the $25 range when he introduced the ordinance, the Council as a whole decided offenders could receive up to six months in jail and a $500 fine. Louisiana and Virginia state senators, as well as the cities of Westwego, La., and Dallas, Texas, attempted to pass similar ordinances, but failed. But for years Opelousas, La., has enforced a ban on this fad, where they claim to have a problem with people exposing more than their underwear. In Opelousas, this offense is considered a misdemeanor also punishable by a $500 fine and up to six months in prison.
