'Enfants Terribles' Still Have It
Westwood, Gaultier & Galliano

They have been labelled fashion's "enfants terribles" for bringing politics, live animals or models splashed in fake blood to their catwalks.
And although they are now all beyond the age of 40, Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood showed no sign on Tuesday of becoming any tamer.
Britain's Westwood transformed her catwalk into a Stone Age cave, sending out models in high furry hats, wrapped in knitted cardigans, with bone pendants dangling from their necks.
The 65-year-old Westwood, who has kept her edge since her bondage-inspired creations for the Sex Pistols punk band in the 1970s, said she had been inspired by the image of a "cave girl"....

France's Gaultier, the creator of pop star Madonna's famous cone-shaped bustier, picked up on the tartan theme on Tuesday, sending out models with feathers in their hair, wearing checkered coats with small ribbons at the back.
Emerging from smoke onto the catwalk, a model in a bright red jacket surprised editors at the beginning of the show as she kicked her legs and spinned across the runway in a Celtic dance.
"You don't have to be able to jump and dance like that to wear my clothes," Gaultier, 54, joked after the show, which also featured long velvet skirts and fur-trimmed coats....

The swashbuckling Galliano, 46, who has based his past collections on themes ranging from ghosts to geishas and goths, presented a collection for Christian Dior in the spirit of his Japan-inspired haute couture show earlier this year.
Models paraded out in lampshade-sized straw hats, wearing large-collared jackets with origami-pleats at the pockets. Actress Mischa Barton looked on as girls in jackets with tube-shaped shimmering sleeves strutted down a white staircase....more at Reuters

Viktor & Rolf kick off Paris Fashion Week
After the hip New York shows, the cutting-edge creativity of London and the sleek sophistication of Milan, fashionistas were looking forward to classic Parisian chic on Monday.

A scaffolding of lights was attached to the first model who walked out at the Viktor & Rolf show on Monday, making her an autonomous, perambulating fashion show. "We wanted to emphasize how important the show is to us - so each outfit is a self-sufficient fashion show," said Viktor Snoeren, explaining the technical research that went into their astounding production on the first big day of the autumn Paris shows....Source: IHT

Paris Fashion Week continues until Sunday with shows by Chanel, Dior and Alexander McQueen among the most hotly anticipated.

Feathers, Stones, Metallics & Bows...The Oscar Fashions
The awards are just one, sometimes irrelevant, part of the Academy Awards. Its 'what' and 'who' the stars are wearing that can create the most water-cooler moments.
The 2007 Oscars have not disappointed in the fashion stakes, with many of Hollywood's biggest stars stepping out in bold colors, styles and sparkles on the red carpet.
In what is the biggest fashion event of the year, beating the seasonal couture shows around the world, stars such as Cate Blanchett, Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Lopez have dressed dramatically and artistically, putting their designer-clad feet in the right direction.
Nominee Blanchett says her preparation for the awards, her third nomination, was simple.
Wearing a metallic Georgio Armani Prive gown, she said, "It was so simple choosing the dress. I saw the show in Paris and I saw the dress. It was painless."
Best Actress contender Cruz also hit the high fashion states in an extravagant strapless gown with elaborate skirt.
Of her peach tone Versace dress, the "Volver" star said, "I tried on 15 to 20 dresses but I thought this was it. It's the only dress you can wear at the Oscars."
Looks favored by stars this year included detailed necklines, sported by Oscar favorite Helen Mirren and Beyonce Knowles, and over-sized bows, seen on Nicole Kidman and Anne Hathaway.
Fashion critic, Tom Julian, of Oscar.com, said, "This is the year of extravagant designs - fancy fabrics, feathers as trim, unexpected stones and metallics."
Early front runners in the best dress category are Reese Witherspoon in a strapless deep purple gown, Gwyneth Paltrow in Zac Polsen and Nicole Kidman....Source: All Headline News

Dutch Fan Handcuffs Herself to Hugh Grant at Premiere of 'Music & Lyrics'

A prankster handcuffed herself to Hugh Grant at the Dutch premiere of his new movie Music & Lyrics last night.
The actor was left stunned when Cielke Sijben, a journalist working for Dutch TV network 101 TV, leaped forward as he walked the red carpet at the Amsterdam Pathe and clamped a metal handcuff on his wrist, attaching herself to him.
The confused star had to stand for 10 minutes while police detained Sijben and fire fighters were summoned to free him from his captor.
After the cuffs were cut off, the calm 46-year-old returned to his red-carpet duties, promoting the film - in which he stars alongside Drew Barrymore - while Sijben was arrested by police.
An onlooker says, "It was incredible. She appeared from nowhere and Grant couldn't believe it was happening. But he was the ultimate professional. He just stood in silence and waited for the fire fighters to free him. He did look relieved when he disappeared into the theatre - she could have been a maniac."...Source: Starpulse

HDTV changes the face of being Red-Carpet Ready

Stars striving to look their best at this year's Academy Awards must surmount a high new hurdle: HDTV. Because of it, every single cellulitic pucker, every stocking seam askew, every freckle, every age spot will loom as large on screen as the borrowed jewelry hanging from their necks.
"[Slight imperfections are] more obvious than ever," says Dr. David Colbert, dermatologist and founder of the New York Dermatology Group. It's daylight when the show tapes, meaning no shadows in which the out-of-shape or wrinkly can hide. "Really," says Colbert, "what you see is what you get."
Little wonder, then, that with so much at stake, Oscar contenders are willing to do whatever it takes to look flawless, dropping thousands of dollars on high-tech facials, celebrity nutritionists and the best hair and makeup professionals. Want to pull out all the stops? Here's what you'll have to spend to be equally as red-carpet ready....more from Forbes

Lagerfeld to show ON The Great Wall

Karl Lagerfeld, who staged two Fendi fall-winter shows on Thursday in Milan, has a third in store: in China, and on The Great Wall, no less. "Not as a backdrop, actually on it," Fendi chief Michael Burke said backstage before the show. "We're turning the wall into a street. You know, we're from Rome." The show, slated for May 24 at a location about 90 minutes outside of Beijing, is the latest globe-hopping move for the fast-growing brand...more from WWD

Grey's Anatomy Spin-Off?

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Taye Diggs will star opposite Kate Walsh in ABC's potential spinoff from hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy."
The show will test the waters as a back-door pilot, an expanded two-hour episode of "Grey's" slated to air in May. It will center on neonatal surgeon Addison Shepherd (Walsh), a character who has enjoyed a strong following from fans since she was introduced at the end of the hot surgical drama's first season.
It is understood that the back-door pilot episode will feature Shepherd on the verge of leaving Seattle Grace, a scenario that will be triggered if ABC goes with the spinoff for next season. There were no details on the character Diggs will play....Source: Reuters

Congratulations...Marcia Cross delivers twins!

DESPERATE Housewives star Marcia Cross has given birth to twin girls at the age of 44.
Publicists said Eden and Savannah, born on Tuesday, are doing well in hospital.

They are the first children for Marcia and her stockbroker husband Tom Mahoney, 49, who wed in June last year. Marcia, pictured right, who plays perfectionist Bree in the hit series, was put on bed rest by doctors in January.

It forced production of ABC's show to move to her Los Angeles living room.

Armani: "I'm Prepared to Sell to the Highest Bidder"

Giorgio Armani, the Italian fashion designer, said in a newspaper interview published on Tuesday that he was prepared to sell his fashion empire.
"I'm prepared to sell to the highest bidder," Armani told the business daily Handelsblatt at the opening of an Armani exhibition in Milan.
French group L'Oreal, which already cooperates with Armani in perfumes and cosmetics, has frequently been mooted as a possible buyer.
"L'Oreal could be a partner. But if somebody else offers more, they could also be a partner," said the 72-year-old designer, who has no children.
Experts estimate that Armani is worth about $6.6 billion...Source: DNA India

Lily Allen, Noreasters, Las Vegas & Apologies

Yes, we are a fashion site. Yes, we are New Yorkers.
Yes, we last spoke during THE busiest week of fashion in New York. We get it...and are apologizing...
We last left you during Fashion Week and a cold freeze. With temps dipping below zero (this includes the ever dramatic 'wind chill factor' reaching negative 20) and our studio running into some near heating disasters we opted to put on a hat & scarf and run for cover to the nearest hotel rather than write in our blog. We wanted to write. We even tried to write...really hard. The hotel internet service, however fancy with their plasma screens throughout the lobby, limited guests to ten minutes per session. This was not sufficient for our needs.
Instead, I ordered room service thinking about everything I was missing by being blocked from the world wide web. Okay, that's a discussion for another day because it only lead to me ordering a bottle of wine (following my chicken Caesar salad and Oreo cheesecake lunch) and wondering the (very expected) question of "what did we all do before being plugged in"?
It's odd being a local in a tourist hotel. I made a lot of new friends, which tends to happen when I travel, but rarely happens when I venture out of my neighborhood by only a mile.
Okay, so that's done and I MUST pack for Vegas. I'm leaving for the Pool Trade Show at MAGIC in two days. Tomorrow night is the Lily Allen show, which I am very much looking forward to and very much hoping that I am not the "old girl in the club" when walking in. Lily is brilliant - LOVE her! She is sure to hate this, but she's like a punk Annette Funicello. Annette style + punk + talent = Lily.
Show was brilliant! If you see Lily coming soon to a theatre near you, we highly recommend grabbing some tickets.
Next morning, way too early, off to Vegas on the 9am flight. Car shows up on time, which kind of sucks at the moment, but good thing in the end.
Show, show, show.......we have eight lines this show, our fourth, and are expecting to be overwhelmed. The show has moved this season and is now located outside the LVCC at MAGIC. Previous years have been at the Mandalay Bay - which really spoiled us with their services. A full food court at lunch offering unlimited dining choices (made booth staff very happy).
Pool offered the most amazing port-a-potties anyone reading this has ever seen. I guarantee it. They were sponsored by Kohler. We have zero connection to them and are by no means attempting to endorse a toilet manufacturer on our blog, I'm just saying...if you ever find yourself at a show an you notice a "Kohler" sign above the blue plastic toilet teetering on it's edge, go check it out. If you've ever lived in an NYC apartment you will find Kohler portable toilets nicer than any toilet offered in a $3k/month apartment you've ever rented.
The show was a success. We are now following up with confirmed orders, leads and contacts made at the show. However,.....those who know me - know that my stories always end with a "however"....my left wrist is either sprained or broken, the doctor isn't sure yet. Apparently I won't have an answer until Tuesday.
It was a bit rough lugging all my crap down to the cab from my hotel room. I know you're asking, "What about the bell caps"? Well, my friends, this hotel was so overloaded with the fashion groups leaving and the NBA All-Star groups arriving that the bell caps were nowhere in sight when I grabbed my bags.Short story long....sore wrist when putting bags in cab to McCarran...motionless, swollen wrist when landing in NYC with no movement of fingers.
Moral of the story...I apologize.
I have written this whole story to you with a contraption on my wrist that is so encumbering I can't brush my own teeth, yet I am writing to YOU!
And now that you see how long my stories are, you see why I link the important stories. Just enough to keep you informed, yet enough info to hopefully lure you back for more true fashion stories, not just gossip.

Tomorrow is National Wear Red Day...dig in those closets
The Heart Truth is returning to New York Fashion Week for the fifth year to spotlight the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease and to prompt women to take action to protect their heart health. The Red Dress Collection 2007 theme is "Celebrated Women" and will bring together women from film, television, music, the performing arts, literature, fashion, business, food, media/journalism, and sports together under the tents at Bryant Park.
Created in 2002 by The Heart Truth, the Red Dress was launched as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness at New York's Fashion Week in February 2003 in partnership with America's top fashion designers. Each February since its launch, the Red Dress symbol has come to life on the runway on National Wear Red Day with the support of the fashion industry and celebrity models at the Red Dress Collection Fashion Show....Source: The Heart Truth
