The tote is made from cotton, no word on if it is organic (that would only make sense, but it is not mentioned anywhere), and costs only $15. Good luck getting your hands on one, however. It's been featured in worldwide media and previously all pre-orders were sold out. 90,000 in total.UK-based designer Anya Hindmarch is on a worldwide launch tour; just returning from Japan.
Hindmarch comments on the overwhelming response during recent city stops:
We discussed the canceling of the launches in Beijing, Shanghai and Jakarta due to the stampedes in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Anya watched it on the news and was disturbed by the images of people getting trampled. She mused that if she had known that people would come out in droves, she might have planned things differently.
This morning at 8am you lucky New Yorkers (who are already in line) can pick up your bag at Wholefoods on the Bowery. Anya will be debuting the bag for a fabulous price of $15.
"I'm Not a Plastic Bag" was designed in collaboration with We Are What We Do, a movement to inspire people to use their everyday actions to save the world. Action number one is "Decline Plastic Bags Wherever Possible" - amen! They state that each person in the UK uses up to 167 bags a year - 10 billion annually in total. So bring your own! (no stats on U.S. usage as of yet)
Recent celebs spotted toting the bag include Keira Knightley, Reese Witherspoon, and Jessica Biel.
