Bella Freud Exits Biba for Own Line
Bella Freud has quit Biba, the label she was hired three seasons ago to transform from Sixties icon into a 21st century must-wear fashion house. The British designer is now said to be turning her attention to a new own-name collection, one that promises to include luxe cashmere and elegant T-shirts. Freud told Women's Wear Daily,
"Even when I was working with Biba, I was doing my own collection on a minute scale," she continued. "Now, I really want to put all of my energy into it. It's still going to be small, but it will reflect all my passion and imagination."
Freud's debut collection will be unveiled as an exhibition with the Belarus-born model and photographer Elle Muliarchyk, at London's Frieze Art Fair in October. The designer has also created a capsule collection, which will go on sale at Dover Street Market at the end of June. Biba has yet to comment on her replacement.
