Vinylmania Records Closes Its Doors

The music has stopped at a Manhattan store that kept New Yorkers dancing for nearly 30 years. In the 70's, Vinylmania stores lined Carmine Street in the West Village. But on Saturday, the only one left closed its doors. Known as a domain for DJ's, party goers came to say goodbye to a music industry mecca. "We affected a lot of people's lives and I can safely say that a lot record collections that still exist in New York City were built out of this store," said store owner Charlie Grappone. "I think it's like the end of an era. I think that when vinyl first came into play this store just took off," said customer Doris Palazzo. "And as times changed, the record industry changed, and really I'm happy for them but I'm sad that it's ended." Vinylmania first opened in 1978. ...NY1
